January 16th Meeting Announcement
Thank you one and all for helping OHBA have a great first year. OHBA successfully produced 7 major educational events during 2006 and gained a first year membership base of 95 professional landscape industry companies/entities. OHBA is all about improving the quality of life for all and the sound health of the landscape industry. Change is happening and we must be prepared for that change. To that regard our first seminar is going to be sensational and we hope that all will attend. This will be OHBA’s only daytime event. Please note the following:

Mayor Bill White “The Greening of Houston”
Mayor White has been an exceptional leader for our city and has been a leading advocate for a cleaner, healthier city. Mayor White will discuss some of his most prominent environment efforts to date; The importance of a healthy environment to the citizens of Houston, his efforts to improve our air quality which presently falls below EPA’s minimum standards, Leed certification for all new city of Houston bldgs, Green Roofs for Houston, The importance of landscaping and reforestation of our city, water quality & conservation.

Mr. Brian Yeoman “Opportunities by Going Green”
Brian is a senior research scientist for HARC (Houston Advanced Research Center). HARC is a major environmental think tank located in Houston. HARC has just been recently approved as the City of Houston’s main environmental consultant. Brian is a big picture visionary who will give excellent insight into Houston’s “Environmental State of the Union” and what this represents to us as challenges and opportunities. Protection and enhancement of the environment is where the future dollars will be spent. As the late, great anthropologist, Margaret Mead once stated “You can’t have a quality society without a quality environment”

Mr. Jerry Brunetti “Soil-Plant-Human Health”
Jerry is a national consultant who travels all over the country helping food producers, health care Professionals, golf superintendents, landscape professionals achieve better soil health. Once the soil is healthy so are plants and animals. As the foods we consume are better so are we. Jerry is another “Big Picture” expert who will explain the critical connection we humans have with the soil and how it is natural for us to be healthy and not sick. Poor soils, poor diets are weakening us as a species and we are less able to meet the challenges ahead. Jerry will tell us how to change this and our lives.
