The Ecology of Plants, Pollinators & Birds
Ecology is the study of the relationships between organisms in their ecosystem. As the dominant organism in our ecosystem, we determine how well or how poorly our ecosystem functions.
This presentation will illustrate how the plants we grow in our yards can create an oasis for birds, butterflies, and pollinators and a retreat for families and avoid a sterile suburban ecosystem.
Glenn Olsen co-founded GO Native Landscaping for Birds and Butterflies, a landscape consulting and installation company dedicated to creating habitat for birds and pollinators in yards and on private properties. Glenn teaches bird identification, gardening for birds and butterflies, and nature related classes through Rice University's Continuing Studies Department and Houston Audubon. He co-founded the Wildscapes Workshop through the Native Plant Society of Texas (NPSOT) where he served as president of the Houston Chapter and the State NPSOT. He has led field trips and presented for the Texas Ornithological Society, Houston Audubon, Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival, Galveston Featherfest, Rockport Hummer/Bird Festival, the Native Plant Society of Texas and others. Through his birding tour company, GOBirding Ecotours, Glenn has led trips to Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, Amazon Rainforest, Honduras, Costa Rica and the hottest birding locations in Texas and the United States.
